Reconciliation Action Plan REFLECT
In 2017 Cowell Electric formed a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) committee to commence the development of a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The committee researched Cowell Electric’s rich history of Indigenous engagement spanning 90 years with projects in regional and remote areas of Australia including electricity generation and supply in Indigenous communities.
From this research, a Draft RAP was developed and distributed for comment prior to submission to Reconciliation Australia for approval. During the following months, the RAP continued to evolve to incorporate the feedback from Reconciliation Australia and interested parties within the business that resulted in the release our first RAP “Reflect” in April 2018.
In July 2018, Ahrens Group purchased Cowell Electric. The team at Cowell Electric was in the final stages of gaining approval for our Reflect RAP. The Managing Director, Stefan Ahrens embraced the document and saw the opportunity to grow the reconciliation process at Ahrens using the RAP to formalise initiatives by Ahrens in remote communities in the Northern Territory.
In 2019 the RAP Committee commenced work on the second RAP “Innovate”. This document is currently in Draft and expected to be released in the second half of 2020 following formal endorsement by Reconciliation Australia.
